Spectacular D-day in super HD and color: Commemorating 80 years of D-day, 6 June 1944 - 6 June 2024
One of the most memorable and spectacular events of World War 2 was D-day, the allied operation aimed at defeating the Germans and ending their hegemony, thus liberating north-west Europe.
This video shows these historic events in stunning color (colorized) and in the highest possible full HD quality that you have ever seen!
The invasion of Nazi-occupied France was codenamed Operation OVERLORD and took place on Tuesday 6 June 1944. Originally it was planned for the 5th of June but was delayed because of poor weather. A severe storm battered the Normandy coast, even making the German commander in charge of defending the North French coast, Erwin Rommel, believe that an attack would be highly unlikely. He even went back home to Herrlingen in Germany for his wife's birthday. This error of judgement gave the allies an additional advantage of surprise after military weather stations predicted a spell of calmer weather early the next morning.
The Allied forces launched a combined naval, air and land assault in what was to become the largest seaborne invasion in history.
In effect it opened a second front to attack the Germans, the first front being the Russian frond. The aim was to weaken the Germans by forcing them to divide their defences over two fronts.
The Americans, British an Canadians formed the core of the troups but it should not be forgotten that also Australian, Belgian, Czech, Dutch, French, Greek, New Zealand, Norwegian, Rhodesian and Polish participated in naval, air and ground support. In total 2 million men were made available for the invasion. In total 156,000 men participated in the first attack wave.
There are three important activities that played a crucial role in the success of D-day, namely the use of glider planes to transport large numbers of troups, the provisional Mulberry harbours and Pluto, the Pipeline Under The Ocean to provide essential fuel supply to the allied military vehicles.
This footage has been meticulously restored, enhanced and colorized using the latest A.I. video software.
Please note that the colorization may not be entirely historically accurate. About 90% of the audio track has been re-created, using many sound effects (in order to replace original copyrighted music).
This video does not contain mutilated or dead bodies in order to obide by UA-cam's rules.
In part-2 we will address the military advances of the allied troups towards Paris in the Battle of Normandy.

It should be noted that the film was shot only about 16 years after the ending of the boxer uprising from 1899 to 1901 and 6 years after the Chinese ...

The V1 flying bomb was not put into use until 1 week after D-Day. Some of the V1s were produced with a fighter cockpit that would allow for precise targeting and most likely the death of the pilot. These were only employed once at the end of WWII. If the piloted version was ready in time for the D-Day landing they might have had devastating results. Over 30,000 V1s were produced, but only about 12,000 were used. Because they were inaccurate they were more of a terror weapon than a precise bomb. They were much cheaper to build than the V2. The main positive of the V2 is that once launched it could not be stopped

Hello, my GGrandfater V.V.Crouch was in Verdun in WWII part of a Railroad Battalion. There was an incident where 60 glider pilots showed up and needed to get back to get more gliders. This was problematic due to sabotage of tracks, equipment and communication. Supply drops not getting through until a night glider mission was put together. Parts flow in. Train assembled, track cleared. Locomotive was fired and dawn and they got through without any authorization from HQ. Has anyone heard this? Can anyone add to this? I do have some documents, photos that confirm some of this.

World War 1 hadn’t even happened yet. Nobody knew what a great/world war was. Germany was the most advanced civilization in the world. No one had heard of the titanic. No one had TVs. Radios were something people had heard of, and maybe heard a broadcast in a public area, but hardly anyone had a radio of their own. Only the wealthiest ten percent had a telephone. The video portrays far more cars than there actually were, probably in an attempt to portray New York as an advanced city, but only about 0.5 percent of Americans had cars, and everyone else was on horseback. There were no airports and no one had even seen an airplane before except possibly on cigarette cards. The forerunner of the modern sportscard, every cigarette package had a trading card, and card collecting was very popular, as with no TVs color printing being the main form of media . This is the year that the T37 Turkey Red automobile cards came out, with pictures of automobiles on them which seem like go carts to us, but were the latest technology revolution to them. Smoking itself was somewhat of a novelty, and only a small percentage of the population smoked. Albert Einstein was a young celebrity having written his groundbreaking theory of special relativity 5 years earlier and was still five years away from publishing general relativity. Modern science was in its infancy. All films were silent, and merely accompanied with music. And here i am witnessing this entire era on my ipad.

This is unbelievably stunning footage, to say the least! I suppose it's interesting how the original b/w gritty & scratchy material must literally make one feel how much time has passed in 80 years - more than an entire lifespan - and how far away these events now are. At the same time, this superb restoration and coloration (together with Sound FX) gives the images an incredible immediacy and tangibility that is hard to match. The quality of the footage even has that special desaturated, high contrast Cinemascope look of, for example, Steven Spielberg's "Saving Private Ryan" to it. Just incredible. That this is Europa 80 years ago just blows my mind, and really makes me wonder, maybe at times worry a little, about the present we're living in and the fragility of democracy as a whole. Biggest appreciation and much respect out to Rick88888888, thank you!

Something's are good others are terrible for the footage. I like the stabilization in the basic cleanup but using AI to give detail where there wasn't really much detail and using it to colorize things which often gets terribly wrong it's not that great (it would be far better if there was a person that was there or knew the situation and it can be manually colorized that would be actually correct and not a wild guess, otherwise it would be best not to touch a colors as they vary from seem to scene, and are out of touch). And the motion sometimes seems a little bit too smooth it's uncanny and unnatural (the way it fits missing frames). while cleaning up dirt and scratch marks with AI maybe fast it can often remove entire chunks of detail and put in parts that were never even there in the first place I personally think AI is not the way, the real way to restore actual archive analog film is to do a full film restoration. That means finding the source film scanning it at a high resolution, color correcting it, fixing dust dirt and scratch marks stabilization of the footage and other fixes (this means doing literal manual work framed by frame often). ua-cam.com/video/mhFMFhIMMY8/v-deo.html this is all doable because they were all filmed on physical film which has incredible amounts of detail. it's just that depending on the transfer it can look great or bad an example of this famous song (old bad transfer from Tape master) 1 ua-cam.com/video/rdBF5seCfwg/v-deo.html vs 2 ua-cam.com/video/E8gmARGvPlI/v-deo.html a full 35mm 4K restoration the difference is quite noticeable - and even if something was HD and was bumped to 4K the detail is significantly better (not using AI but scanning it at a high resolution) (an example of an old black and white movie) ua-cam.com/video/K8eBcwuglfs/v-deo.html the real issue is that a lot of archival Studios are not willing to put the money and time into restoring old footage it can look literally like it was filmed yesterday it can look that good. Movies, TV shows, cartoons and anime have been restored like this for decades. sorry if you knew all of this, it's just a fact that a proper restoration will always look better than an AI interpretation

When we honor God as if already whole. As in the whole World. And remember other Nations Good will towards the Doctrine we so Honorly carry. And stop executions officially. God will gove His Blessings unceasingly. For what baffles man so is the reason they can only rehabilitate some and not others. Is that they choice to be healed by God Himself. Whimever desires to partake in this Work. God promised he would write their names on the pillar of His temple. The Forefront of His mind. And their sons will know them for all eternity. Amen.

Ask and he gladly gives only save this heart of mine. It is in recognition of the Rainbow. That God created Himself.
